Two-time Olympian Nathan Lawson will return to the Australia Men’s Sevens program ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 after signing a two-year contract.
Lawson, 27, returns to Rugby Australia after a stint in the NRL with the St George Illawarra Dragons, where he played four first grade games.
Lawson will resume his Rugby Sevens career via the Ultimate Sevens in Europe throughout September before reuniting with his Australian teammates for pre-season training in November.
The former Newington College student has played in 26 events on the HSBC SVNS World Series circuit, crossing for 69 tries.
He finished his first stint winning the 2024 Shawn Mackay Award as the Australian Men's Rugby Sevens Player of the Year while also featuring in World Rugby's Dream Team.
Director of High Performance Peter Horne said: “We are delighted to see Nathan return to the Rugby Sevens program ahead of an Olympic-qualifying year ahead for the side.
“Nathan is a proven performer on the international stage and his experience will be vital for our squad as we move closer to the LA Games in 2028.”
Lawson’s return comes as the Australia Men's program locked in Ben Dowling, James Turner, James McGregor and Harry Wilson to contract extensions last week.
