Rising star Aden Ekanayake started playing rugby at his local club when he was six for a long time before playing at Barker College.
Of Sri Lankan descent and following his school commitments he joined Gordon Rugby Club.
He would return to Sri Lanka in 2023 for a school Sevens tournament, where he was later ushered into the Aussie 7s program full-time.
Ekanayake had a dominant maiden season in gold, scoring eight tries in seven tournaments to be nominated for World Rugby's rookie of the year award.
He was instrumental on home soil during the Men's run to the final in Perth, scoring the match-winning try.
With a background in XVs, Ekanayake represented the Australia Under 20s following his 7s commitments in 2025.
He rounded out his first season with being awarded the Australian Men's rookie of the year alongside teammate Sid Harvey at the RA Awards.
