The Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team has finished fourth in Dubai after falling to the USA 24-7 in the third place play off.
Earlier in the day Australia fell in the Semi Finals to Canada 12-26 in a tough, physical encounter that saw the North Americans get the better of the green and gold with a classy performance.
In the Pool stages, the Australians went undefeated accounting for Fiji, Ireland and Spain before again defeating Spain in the quarter final.
In the third place play off the USA shot out to an early lead and pinned the women in the gold inside their half, that the Aussies were unable to gain back momentum within the match.
Qantas Australia Women’s Sevens Head Coach, John Manenti said: “I was really impressed with our debutants in Dubai with Faith and Georgia really announcing themselves on the World stage over the last three days.
“We’re disappointed not to be on the podium but there are plenty for us to take onboard for next week’s tournament in Cape Town which we will work on.
“Next week will be history making with the first ever round of the Women’s Series in Cape Town and this squad is excited about bouncing back and putting their best foot forward next week.”

Georgia Hannaway and Faith Nathan earned their debuts for Australia on the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Australia have scored 51 tries and 38 conversions for 331 points across the two rounds of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Sharni Williams leads the point scoring the Aussies with 73, followed closely by Emma Tonegato on 70.
Demi Hayes came into the squad for the injured Emma Tonegato, playing her first World Series tournament since the USA 7s in 2018.
